If you've known me for a while, you probably know that I have a small obsession with mugs.
Not just any mugs, but those unique pieces you see everywhere on Pinterest. The kind that immediately make you dream of vacation and give you the idea that your life will be better if you drink your coffee/tea or matcha from that specific mug.
For years, I've saved such mugs on Pinterest. But I always ran into the same problem: what I saw online, you couldn't easily buy here in Belgium. If you looked it up, it often came from a studio on the other side of the world, and you'd pay an arm and a leg just for shipping costs. My idea was that if you wanted Pinterest mugs, you'd have to paint them yourself at a sip & paint, for example, because buying them seemed difficult to impossible...
Because of this, one thought kept coming back: why don't I just make them myself?
I don't have years of experience with ceramics. I'm not a professional, but I strongly believe that you can learn (almost) anything if you're willing to practice, make mistakes, and start over. You ALWAYS have to start somewhere, and you're bound to 'fail,' because this is 'part of the process.'
That's how the first ideas for Aeru came about.
Every mug I make is handmade by someone who herself fell in love with the Pinterest aesthetic and wants to make that same vibe accessible to others. No mass production, but pieces made with care and enthusiasm.
This is just the beginning of my ceramic journey, but that's precisely what makes it so special. You don't just see the end products, but you grow with the story behind Aeru.
And honestly? That feels much more enjoyable than starting perfectly.
